The exterior of kandoori looks as this. It has ample parking facility for about 5- 6 cars at a time.

Interior seating arrangements

This Indian restaurant has a great ambience. The interior is spacious and air conditioned with comfortable seating. There are two types of tables in this restaurent. One is the marbled table. The other is the normal one. The only downside of the marbled table is that, its abit distant from the chair ( and this table and chair is fixed to the floor so no way of you moving them), which makes you lean  forward to reach your plate. This could be avoided if you sit in the normal table .

Menu

Kandoori offers a wide range of  Indian, Chinese, Western and Sri Lankan dishes. All these are reasonavlly priced. For the quality of ambience and delicious food they cater, its indeed value for money. You could get their menu from the link here.

The chicken biriyani (pic below) was tummy filling and yeahhh delicious. The mutton biriyani  is just great <3

Places to watch World Cup T20 Finals

As you all know Sri Lanka has qualified for yet another finals and this time it's the World T20 finals which we qualified two years ago and unfortunately lost *Sigh* . But this time we have got a 2nd chance and also as it is against India we have got some unfinished business against them to be sorted out from the 2011 World cup finals. So everyone's pumped up for tomorrow's finals and here are a list of places where you can enjoy the finals with your family and friends.

1. CH & FC Grounds

This is one of the most favorite place for many and it is organised by Lite FM. The tickets are priced at Rs. 500 and can be purchased from 5th April till the game starts. There will be tables and chairs to watch but it will allocated in first come first serve basis. They have an awesome DJ but recently we saw some tweets that they spend too much time on commercials. As it's the finals tomorrow I doubt it won't be the same. There will also be plenty of food and drink stalls.

2. Taj Samudra

This is one of the admin favorites. Why? The ticket price is Rs. 500 and you can use this money towards the food and beverages available at the North Lawn of Taj. Yes you read that right ;) free food for the 500 you pay for the ticket. It's organised by Kiss FM so the entertainment aspect is also guaranteed and you can taste some delicious Taj food and Booze while enjoying the game.

3. Colombo Racecourse and Galle Face

These are two places you can watch the games for free so it will be crowded for sure and also the atmosphere will be fantastic too. But if it rains tomorrow in Sri Lanka there's no place for shelter and in Racecourse recently during a match the signal went off due to rain as they were using dialog tv.

So given above are some choices for you all so choose wisely your favorite option and make sure you be there early so you can get a good view of the screen and a place with a good shelter as there will be chances of rain tomorrow. Good luck to the Sri Lankan team and let's hope and pray our Lions will bring the cup home :)

RIO ICE CREAM PARLOUR

RIO ICE CREAM PARLOUR

4A, Station Road, Marine Drive, Wellawatte, Colombo 06

Rio ice cream is the most popular ice cream as carnival in Colombo. The outlet in Jaffna has been rated 4 out of 5 and is even recommended by the trip advisor. It is a must go if you visit to Jaffna.
But now, you need not to travel to Jaffna to taste their ice cream. They are in Colombo too.
In this review, we focus on their Colombo outlet <3

 Known for

The name says it all… Yes, ICE CREAM!!!
Rio is known for its GENEROUS portions of ice cream, offered at a cheap price which draws nearly everyone to them.

Exterior view

This is how Rio looks like from outside. They do have out-door dining facility, with plastic furniture as shown in the picture. Parking is quite an issue on weekends and on weekdays around 2pm and 5pm. You could park on the either sides of the road. If not, in a lane close by.

Interior seating arrangements

The interior is furnished with Comfortable Wooden furniture.

Menu

The menu is filled with a great variety, with prices ranging from Rs.30- Rs.300. They serve not only ice cream, but also sundaes and juices.
Talking of individual items, the best are Rio Special and Rio Mega Special.
Topped with nuts, Rio special has 3 layers; four scoops of  Ice cream (is four scoops of ice cream- fruit and nut, vanilla, mango, and milk, fruit and nut, vanilla, mango and milk ice cream) , jelly and fruit salad.is four scoops of ice cream- fruit and nut, vanilla, mango, and milk, is four scoops of ice cream- fruit and nut, vanilla, mango, and milk, Rio mega Special which is topped with smarties, also involves the same 3 layers but in generous quantities and different flavor. Warning: You wouldn’t be able to finish the meg special alone ;)
Chocolate double cut is also a must try .but bear in mind it has a quite a different taste. They even have take-away options and also sell their ice cream in tubs of 1litre.

Service

Rio is open from 9.00 am to 10.00pm. The customer service can be rated as satisfactory. The cashier area could be really packed on peak times and days, which could delay our orders. No wifi and credit cards accepted.

Privacy

It is a silent place during non peak times like from 9am to 1pm during weekdays. However wouldn’t recommend it for a romantic day out.
But if you want to enjoy a variety of ice cream with your loved one for a really worth-it price, then Rio is the place <3

That’s it on Rio ice cream shop. Hope you guys got enough info.  If you need any help or clarification, email us at lovelifecolombo@gmail.com or drop in a message in our Facebook page.

The Chariot

The Chariot
No 131, Maya avenue, Colombo 6 (Head office)
This is our first review on the restaurants section and we chose “The Chariot” in Maya avenue because it was our very first date spot.  Walking into the restaurant, we were surprised seeing the lovely interior, the food and service they offer. It was total value for money. If you want to have a great dine in experience for a real worthy price, The Chariot is a definite option.
The Chariot also has branches in Dehiwela, Bambalapitiya, Panadura, Pelawatte, ODEL

Known for

They are known for their Jaffna dishes which they serve under the motto of “Yummy Yarlpanam”. Also renowned for their Milk Hoppers and short eats.

Interior seating arrangements

We would say it’s the interior of the restaurant that makes it special. Air conditioned place accommodating four tables (four chairs each) with tablemats, glasses and needed cutlery and also an outdoor dine in area (Not towards the road).

Menu

The Menu offered by The Chariot in Maya avenue, is the same as their other outlets. However, this outlet does not offer Sushi as similar to the World Trade Centre Outlet.
They offer a variety of Sri Lankan dishes especially Jaffna dishes, Short eats, Juices and deserts. The Menu can be found in this link. http://thechariot.lk/menu/

The Short eats are much spoken of and you can see many stopping by in the morning to get breakfast for their kids. The short eats are not mentioned in the above menu but it basically includes the common short eats and along with some chariot special items, with price ranging from 50/= to 200/=.
The Lunch dishes offered are satisfactory.  We have tried Nasi goreng and Chicken fried rice both were good. A good lunch (with desert) would cost between 500/= to 1000/= (for two). With the ambiance offered by the restaurant, it is total Value-For-Money. They also provide you with water when you dine in (you might have to ask for it sometimes).
Deserts, however, were not much impressive. They offer biscuit pudding, caramel pudding etc for a price of 60/= to 100/= in a yoghurt sized cup.
Milk hoppers are highly commended by all customers and are indeed the best offered by The Chariot. The koththu also falls into the same list.

Service

They are open from 7am to 10pm. The Staff is really customer friendly and concerned. Waiting time was 12 minutes for 2 dishes of chicken fried rice at around 1pm, when there were only two other customers along with us both. They have an open kitchen where the customer could see how the dish is served and curries are kept. Also there are no additional service tax charge and also no Wi-Fi connection.

Privacy

It is a very silent place. It is not congested much in the morning or afternoon. Provides a lovely atmosphere to dine in with your better half. But could be crowded on weekends due to the student crowd from nearby tuition providers.

Events

They have various events like koththu & Mongolian night, Mongolian & BBQ night, Dosa night, Sri Lankan night, Pittu night etc. You can get the information about their latest events through their Facebook profile http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Chariot-Restaurant/225477197495090

Hope it helped you to get a complete view of the place.  If you need any help or clarification, email us at lovelifecolombo@gmail.com or drop in a message in our Fb page.
